Peonies at the Experimental Farm

We stopped by the Ornamental Gardens at the Experimental Farm a couple of weeks ago for a walkabout.  Many of the flower beds were empty, but the peony beds were in full display.

My grandparents grew peonies in their backyard garden, and I was impressed at how ants could be found all over the closed bulbs, assisting with their opening process.  I still don’t know what’s in it for them, but this was certainly my first exposure to a symbiotic relationship in nature…
